Milan — 4-Day City & Bergamo Itinerary

Milan · 4 days

Day 1 — Centro Storico: Duomo, Galleria, Brera

Begin in Milan’s historic core with a relaxed outdoor start before museum time. Cross into Parco Sempione for shaded paths, ponds and views toward Torre Branca and the Arco della Pace. Continue along Via Dante to the Castello Sforzesco to explore its courtyards and choose one or two museum highlights rather than attempting every collection.

Day 2 — Isola & Porta Garibaldi: Modern Milan and Nightlife

Shift to Milan’s contemporary side around Porta Garibaldi and Isola. Start with a brisk circuit of Piazza Gae Aulenti to appreciate the UniCredit Tower and the modern skyline. Walk the pedestrian bridges and elevated routes linking Porta Garibaldi to Isola for varied city views, then approach the Bosco Verticale and the Biblioteca degli Alberi for a green interlude.

Day 3 — Day Trip to Bergamo: Città Alta

Take a regional train from Milano Centrale to Bergamo for a day among medieval streets and panoramic walls. Ride the funicular up to Città Alta for initial terraces and then explore Piazza Vecchia, Palazzo della Ragione and the richly decorated Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore and Cappella Colleoni. Walk sections of the Venetian walls for sweeping views across the plain and Alps, and enjoy a leisurely lunch in the upper town before returning to Milan for an easy dinner near the station.

Day 4 — Porta Venezia: Parks, Modern Art and Local Streets

Spend the final day in Porta Venezia. Walk Giardini Indro Montanelli for a calm urban park experience and visit the Galleria d’Arte Moderna at Villa Reale for 19th‑ and 20th‑century works. Enjoy lunch in the neighbourhood, then stroll Corso Buenos Aires for a mix of shopping and late‑19th‑century façades. Continue toward NoLo to sample local cafés, bakeries and a less touristed side of the city. Finish with a convivial farewell dinner in Porta Venezia.
